Sustainability
v Lowers utility bills because concrete floors are slow to het and cool down.
v Uses the foundation that is already poured, which eliminates the need to cut down trees
v Easy on the budget, stained concrete costs about half the price of hardwood floors.
v Good for people with allergies.
Installation
v There is not really an installation for concrete floors. Concrete floors are simple; it is the existing slab of the building.
v There are different ways to get the color however.
v The options are Polishing, Dyeing, Chemical Staining, (such as acid staining).
Dying Process
v A high-volume low-pressure (HVLP) sprayer is may be used, or you can roll on the color, or brush it on.
Maintenance
v Routine Care
v Daily Dust Mopping to Remove the fine dust particles and grit which can grind away the finish on your floor
v Use a Micro-Fiber Dust Mop. Brush the mop in a continuous movement.
v A vacuum can also be used. Never use a “Swiffer Wet-Jet” the solvent in the Swiffer will not ruin the sealer but will cause the wax on the concrete floors to egg-shell
v Concrete floors take about a month to cure, so use a walk-off matt to catch the excess dirt.
v NO PLASTIC, the plastic can cause discoloration in the concrete floor.
v Treat concrete like wood floors when it comes to heavy furniture. Use plastic glides, Felt Pads, or Magic Movers.
v Periodic Care
v Re-waxing the floor depends on the wear and tear Red to Black put on the floor. Re-waxing can vary from re-waxing every 3 months to yearly.
v Use a 20% minimum solids wax. No Mop-n-Glo or similar wax should be use on the concrete.
v To apply wax use a looped-end Rayon Mop or a Lambs Wool Applicator. Pour a dinner-plate size puddle on the floor and spread the wax evenly and thinly. The wax must dry for an hour before surface is able to walk on.
Calculations:
v Total Square Feet: 36 x 24= 864 x $2.00= $1,728
v Total Cost= $1,728

v One of the benefits of vinyl wallcovering is that it has little to no moisture permeability.
v They are mildew resistant.
v The wallcovering is long lasting in high traffic areas due its thickness. The backing also helps prevent tearing and any other damage.
v Vinyl wallcoverings are made primarily of sea salt, and produces no dangerous compounds.
v If the wallcovering is disposed of in a landfill nothing from the vinyl with leach into the ground water.
v Vinyl wallcoverings can be recycled into new vinyl wallcoverings, when no longer needed.
v They are also an economical choice.
Installation:
v Before installation the installer needs to make sure the wall surface is smooth, clean and dry. Verify that moisture content is less than 4%.
v Only full widths should be used for proper installation.
v Store the wallcovering in a clean, dry and protected environment. The wallcover needs to be maintained at about 70 degrees for 72 hours. The temperature needs to be same 70 degrees when installing.
v All material must be installed in the numerical roll sequence starting with the highest number.
v Apply an even coat of adhesive to the fabric side with a roller or a paste machine. The wallcovering should stay booked for at least 15 minutes.
v Install the wallcovering with a plastic smoother, working out all air bubbles.
v Both match and random patterns must be double cut. With match it is recommended to notch the over lapping selvage exposing the underlying pattern. This ensures a proper match.
Maintenance:
v Use clear warm water, or mild soapy warm water, then rinse. You can also use rubbing alcohol.
v Do not use solvent based cleaning agents, lacquer thinners, nail polish remover, pine oil or cleaning agents containing bleach. Using bleach on the wall covering may cause discoloration over a period of time.
v It is recommended that cleaning be done with a natural sponge. A cloth or towel should only be used to damp dry (do not rub).
Calculations:
v Total Area of the Space: 1,340.5 x 10= 13,505
v Total Square Feet of the Space: 13,505/ 13.5= 1,001
